MYSTERIES OF THE SOČA VALLEY
The emerald river is that river which will shyly hide everything from you in one moment and in the next, expose its secrets so powerfully, that it will take your breath away. The SočaRiver, like a shrew untamed, characterises this magnificent piece of the world over and over, giving the area its name and life.
The secrets are borne by the SočaRiver, which slowly uncovers all its amazing beauty - whether produced by nature or man.
Visit the source of the emerald river and the Zadnja Trenta valley under the slopes of the crystal mountain. Do not overlook the Slovenian Alpine botanic garden Alpinum Julijana where over 1000 specimens of flora have been collected. Visit the basin of the Mlinarica stream, and the Tolmin pools, the Trnovo and Kobarid gorges, the gorge of the NadižaRiver and the Kozjak and Boka waterfalls. Take a stroll through the Zadnjica valley surrounded by the steep mountain walls plunging directly into its riverbed, making this one of the most untamed regions of the Julian Alps. Examine Breginjski kot and its ethnological monument, the Breginja museum. Step over Napoleon’s bridge on the NadižaRiver and explore the open-hearth kitchen in Robidišče. Stop at the Kobarid museum and continue to the late antiquity settlement of Tonocov castle and to the Italian ossuary. Step up to the front line running from Rombon to Mengore, then onwards to the open-air museum and the Kobarid historical trail. A number of interesting tales will appear in front of our doorstep following a visit to the picturesque Drežniške and Krn Alpine meadows.
